True Colors of College Essay WritingIn my first year at college, I worked hard to learn the true colors of college essay writing. Some parts of the process were easy, while others were challenging, but through it all, I kept a journal to document the experience and learn from it.The best way to begin a college essay is with a thesis statement or mission statement. While it may seem simple, it is important to stick to this early on because it will be used in the writing section.The thesis statement should have three parts. Part one is the summary of the major points of the essay. This should be concise, yet include key information such as the main reasons why the writer wants to write about the topic, the importance of the idea, the importance of the students' thoughts, the key issues to be addressed, and so on.Part two is an explanation of how the idea came to the writer's mind. This is where some of the filler comes from because the writer needs to write about the ideas that kept co ming into his or her head throughout the course of the essay.Part three is where the outline for the essay comes in. There are several ways to write an outline, but I usually start with a paragraph describing what the essay is going to discuss.Then, I always follow that up with the information that is relevant to the subject. Finally, I add the summaries at the end, ending with an extended, 'Acknowledgments' paragraph. This is where I summarize everything, which helps me to be organized and will help me be more efficient later on.After all of this work, it is not enough to know how to write the right words. You need to be able to relate the ideas you'rewriting about to real-life experiences, so if you want to master the true colors of college essay writing, make sure you practice and get some feedback from your professors.
